Rather than the mangas that everyone already knows about, like Naruto or Bleach, here are some great mangas that are not as popular.

I'm going to give you the main story and the goods and bads about it.

Slam Dunk

This is a sports manga, and it talks about basketball. The setting is in Shohoku High School, and the main character is a basketball newbie, and the manga talks about his rise to the top.

It starts off introducing Sakuragi Hanamichi, a gang leader, and he eventually joins the basketball club because of a girl. The basketball club aims for the basketball national championship, and to ultimately win.

Hanamichi becomes more and more skilled at basketball, and in the end, he realizes that he really loves basketball.

Whats good about this manga is that it has many themes, like rags to riches and rivalry. There are many exciting matches throughout the story, and great comedy too. And the best part is that its completed, so you don't have to wait for new releases.

Although its a great manga, the storyline is a bit repetitive and the ending isn't all that great. Frankly, the story ended too fast, there should have been more to it. But even with this, Slam Dunk is still a great manga, a must read.

Eyeshield 21

This is another sports manga (I like sports mangas), and it talks about American Football.

This is also set in a high school, and the main character is a running back. Sena, the main character, is new to football, yet he has amazing speed.

His team, the Deimon Devil Bats, aim for the Christmas Bowl, a tournament held in his area.

This is different from Slam Dunk because for every skill the characters do, there is an illustration, i.e. the "Spear Tackle" has a picture of a knight spearing an football player, so the illustrations make the manga better to read.

I really like this manga, because of the characters' skill developements and them having to face impossible odds.

Again, the storyline is a bit repetitive.

O-Parts Hunter (aka 666 Satan)

This is an manga drawn by the brother of Naruto's creator, so the style of it is similar.

It talks about a young boy named Jio and a girl called Ruby, and their quest to find weapons called "O-Parts". People that can use O-Parts are called OPTs, and Jio is one.

It focuses on Jewish themes, like the cabbala and the monsters of the cabbala.

This manga is pretty funny, and also has good themes. Jio and Ruby meet lots of OPTs, and they form a team that will lead an fight against Zenom and Stea, they main antagonists.

There are many types of O-Parts, and it is interesting to see them, also, the story is very good, not all dragged out like Naruto. It is also completed.

D. Gray Man

This is my favorite manga, personally. It talks about Allen Walker, an exorcist, and his quest to rid the world of Akuma (demons) and the "Millenium Earl", the creator of the Akumas.

The exorcists use weapons called "Innocence", while Akuma use "Dark Matter". Allen goes to the Exorcist Headquaters, and there he meets many new people he considers to be his family.

His weapon, a parasite claw, evolves a lot, until it becomes a polar opposite of the Earl's sword. He fights continually evolving Akuma, and the current strongest Akuma is a level 4 Akuma. He also fights the "Noah Family", who are the desendents of Noah (from Noah's Ark).

The story is brillant, and the weapons are very extensive, greatly drawn.

It is a bit violent, but who doesn't like that?

Chrno Crusade

This is an 8 volume manga which focuses on a devil called Chrno and a nun called Rosette. Rosette's goal is to find her brother Joshua, who was taken by Aion, the leader of an organization of demons. Aion also has a past with Chrno.

The story is ok, but the art is brilliant.

A bit short though.

This is only Part 1, it will take more time to write part 2.
