Brisinger of Fire

This time around the story took longer to tell and it felt like it was reading a Tolkien book. It still has the sense of what the first two books has but Chris has now gone into more depth's to describe the country side and how each character feels. It doesn't have anything that might excite you, but in some scenes it does get better.

Eragon still has this thing that killing is wrong, but when you see an old enemy that you thought dead. You would think he would kill him, instead he took pity on Sloan and lied to his cousin. That wasn't surprising at all, but when he healed himself by taking the life away from plants I simply thought nothing of it.

This is a good book to read but it has its flaws like many books out there. It seems to me that Chis is trying to be a bit more like Tolkien , going into too much depth and not focusing on the main story. As much it is good it's not excellent. One of the things I know is that, you need to draw in the reader and not lose their interest.

On many nights, I felt like giving up but I didn't. This so called book series, could have been longer. Once in a while I do like to read other fantasy books to get my interest, but this one just didn't get my full interest at all nor get excited over the characters since they seemed played out.

I would have taken it in another direction, something I will point out Chris. Instead of focusing on the main characters, I would have focused on the main villian and his legion. It would have been far better and a lot more interesting to see, and every once in a while bring in the two cousins.

Eragon may be the main character, but there has to be other characters that you haven't even thought of. But the thing is, it looks like your writing is getting a little sloppy. My opinon, not yours but do take a look at your earlier books and take notice how much has changed.

Are you sure you want to do four books. Why not seven?

In all Brisinger is okay to read, just don't get too excited though since the story is slightly lacking. I sure hope book four will be a lot more better.

Brisingr

The third book of the Inheritance Cycle is a great book. Eragon and Roran start the book by camping near Helgrind. They attack the Ra'zac and defeat them. Roran rescues Katrina and returns with her and Saphira. Eragon remains behind to finish off Ra'zac and to rescue Katrina's father Sloan. He kills some food to survive and feeds himself and Sloan. He then puts enchantments on Sloan to guarantee that he makes it to Ellesmera after consulting and requesting permission from Queen Islanzadi.

Meanwhile at the Varden, Nasauda must earn the trust of her people and performs the Trial of the Long Knives injuring herself. Roran, Katrina, and Saphira return but Arya volunteers to go find him. They meet at Eastcroft and sneak out, obliterating a group of soldiers. Roran also delays his service to the Varden by saying he intends to marry Katrina. She welcomes the twelve spellcasters that the elves sent to protect Eragon. Arya and Eragon make it into the Varden shortly after that. He partially releases Elva from his curse. He goes to Fredrick and asks him for a new sword. He eventually gives him a falchion which Eragon protects with magic.

On the day of Roran's wedding the Varden is attacked witha small group, lead by Murtagh and Thorn. Eragon defeats him with help from his twelve spellcasters and Arya. He returns to the ground battle and finds that the men have lost their pain nerves, making them invulnerable to pain. King Orrin realizes that they can be killed through normal means, but a shot at the hand or a blow to the leg won't even delay them. After that Roran and Katrina are married and Eragon gives them two rings which they can use to summon or warn Eragon.

Eragon is then persuaded to go to the elves leaving Saphira here to guard the Varden. He goes off and finds his escort is Kull Leader, Nar Garzhvog.

Artemis Fowl: A Review

Artemis Fowl II, boy genius, wants to restore his family's fortune. How does he do this? You can find out in Artemis Fowl by Eoin Colfer. You'll find yourself asking, "What happens next?" This is a suspenseful book full of unsuspected twists and turns about the human and fairy worlds. You'll always be surprised every time that you turn a page.

Artemis Fowl II lives in Fowl Manor. The manor once was a castle, but was downsized into a mansion. Now, it is a Victorian manor. Fowl Manor is jam packed with security cameras. It also has many safes. The safes are hidden behind family portraits. Every safe is taped by a couple of video cameras. Fowl Manor is located in Ireland as we know it today.

Holly Short, a fairy elf, lives in an underground fairy city called Haven. Haven is unknown to humans. The city is close to the mantle of the earth, but just far away enough to avoid getting fried to a crisp. The only way in and out are through vents that release hot air into the surface atmosphere. Every vent entrance is shielded from human eyes by a holographic projection that matches its surroundings. Haven is connected to other underground cities by tunnels through the crust. Haven looks like any human city, except for the lights on the ceiling that release a light and heat very much like the sun. Haven is completely uncontaminated and has stale, recycled air. Elves, pixies, centaurs, dwarves, gnomes, and sprites all live in the city while goblins and trolls roam the tunnels that exit the city.

One of the main characters is Holly Short, an elf. She is a female captain in the LEPrecon Unit, which is sort of like a fairy police. Her boss is named Root, also an elf. Holly is short and always wants to do something. She uses very advanced technology in her job ranging from video camera iris lenses to mechanical wings. Both of these were developed by Holly's friend, Foaly the centaur.

Another main character is Artemis Fowl II. He has a brilliant mind which he uses for crime. He is only 12 years old, has black hair, pale skin, and is somewhat on the thin side. He has a loyal bodyguard whom he calls Butler. His dad was the multi-millionaire leader of an international crime ring. He disappeared on a business trip when his boat was sunk. Artemis' mother, Angeline, went insane after his father disappeared. Her bodyguard, Juliet, is a peppy, young teenager who likes to do things her own way.

The book Artemis Fowl has a plot that never ceases to entertain you. You never know whose side to root for! It starts when Artemis Fowl II comes up with a plan to restore his family's fortune. He first kidnaps the elf, Holly Short, and demands a ransom. However, he gets more than he bargained for! In an attempt to get out of paying a ransom, the fairies first try to annihilate Artemis with guns. Then, they try to "blue rinse" his house. That means using a special bomb that kills any living thing in the house. Artemis says that he can escape, but the fairies say that it's impossible! Will the fairies be tricked, or will this be the end of Artemis' scheme and life?

Eoin Colfer's Artemis Fowl is an outstanding novel! I recommend this book to all readers over the age of 10 because of the concept of ransom and the mild violence. It is a fantasy book, but it's very interesting to read. I rate this book all four out of four stars because of the never ending action! Definitely do not miss this excellent book!

Madness of Avlon

In an attempt to take down his former master, Randle a druid of the order intends to stop him but is side tracked when he learns that over four hundred dwarves had escaped Hell Mountain.

Within this new fantasy book series, contains more than enough adventures to last more than enough for a life time. In the Madness of Avlon Klynn, several characters become involved to help free the dwarves and several other creatures that have been held prisoner and forced to be slaves.

In a desperate struggle, Randle and his friends must race against time but he is side tracked when he has this idea that they need help. Now off with a new band of friends, Randle and one of his sons must journey to a land of Centaurs and bring them back in the fold.

It is a delightful book and I loved it from beginning to end. For his first time as an author he does know the rules and knows how to tell a good story, I sure hope he's successful.

I can't wait for the next book in the series.

Armies of Death by Ian Livingstone

Out in the lone Allansian country with your elves and their bows, your dwarves and their axes and your men and their swords, your unique army travels fearlessly across the dead land of Allansia in the abandoned fields. Mysterious and dangerous events come around at every turn and you must think about all the twists and turns that could occur in your situation in the story in order to avoid certain doom.

You will find it difficult to sit still when the mighty Aggralax of the army of death encounters you while telling his elite guards the fanatics to let you live so he can fight you himself. You must recount information about his past and weaknesses and strengths in order to fell the mighty warrior.

To determine your result in this book, you must roll dice and depending on your roll and the certain information acquired about what you are doing, it will determine how you live and how you die. You also have certain statistics that you must follow in order to travel on your adventure. For example at the start of the game you must roll die to decide on your stamina (or your will to live), your luck and your skill. If you needed to roll three dice to decide on your stamina and you scored a 3 a 5 and a 4, you would have a total stamina level of 12 which is an average score for your warrior.

While you start off with a relatively small army, you hire many mercenaries along the way, each with their own unique abilities and special features. When you come across the White knights of the forge you might think that you already have 130 men in your army so why bother with more? When the final battle with the army of death is faught, you may come across a page when a rock is hurtling towards you and it asks if you hired the white knights. If you didn't, the rock will smash you to pieces all because you didn't think you needed any more soldiers.

As well as all this you must decide the certain paths you take through Allansia, for example, you might turn into an alleyway and find a ring. Then the book asks whether you want to take it or leave it. If you say yes you might be in danger if you say no, you are still in danger because while fighting something it might require the ring and without it, just like the mercenaries, you will die an unnecessary death.

To conclude, strategic planning is a big part of this book and if you don't think about what you do and how you do it, it could have dire consequences not only to you, but to your army. So remember to think long term and how this action will affect your result but also think about what might happen if something so small like losing 10 gold pieces to hire a warrior could end in something so big like losing an entire battle that took you a day of reading to get to.

Thank you for listening to my book report on the Armies of Death by Ian Livingstone.

Eldest

Eldest is the sequel to an awesome book called Eragon. Eragon came out two to three years before Eldest did. We got Eldest as soon as it came out and it is as good as the first one. The author of Eragon is only just now eighteen.

If you like books about elves, dwarves, magic and dragons then you will love Eragon and Eldest. Although they are nothing like boring Harry potter books, they are full of action and excitement. But you have got to read them in order or else you will never understand what is happening.

Eldest is about a teenager named Eragon and a dragon named Saphira. Eragon is a rider, an ancient group of peace keepers. They have been around for thousands of years. Although about a century ago the rider Galbatorix turned against the riders and killed them all with his group of evil riders called the forsworn. He only managed to keep three dragon eggs alive and still has them except for Sapphira.

Eragon is traveling to the elves to complete his training and become a fully-fledged rider. In the previous book though Eragon was wounded and left with a scar that pains him horribly whenever he moves the wrong way. He was wounded in a battle in Farthen Dur against The Shade (evil magician) Durza and his army of Urgals. Farthen Dur is a rebel city that fights Galbatorix's rule. He manages to kill the shade and escape. During his training he is often wracked with pain from the scar.

When Eragon, Saphira and their escort reach Ellesmera, the elves city, they find that Eragon and Saphira are not the only ones of their kind. An elven rider named Oromis and his dragon Glaedr still are alive in Ellesmera. Although they are far to injured to fight, Oromis was injured when Galbotorix and the Forsworn captured and tortured him, while Glaedr's front foreleg is cut off. They are to be Eragon and Saphiras teachers and teach them fighting, magic, and Arial skills for Sapphira.

At the end of the story galbatorix attacks the Varden who have merged with Surda a rebel country to the south of the empire. Eragon rushes over hundreds of miles to help the Varden and Surda defeat the empire and win the war. Will he be in time, will he defeat galbatorix well you will just have to read the books for yourself and find out. Oh yeah a new Rider appears and attacks Eragon during the battle. So if you want to find out what happens next you will have to read the next book in the series of three.
