Roald Dahl's Going Solo Review by Sebastian Pillinger

He tells the story of his life during the Second World War, where he was an aircraft pilot in North Africa. It is full of many breathtaking events, and at one point his plane comes down and he nearly dies.

It is a brilliant book that I can't resist to put down, and I just had to keep reading and reading. He's an amazing writer and is a genius with words. It's the kind of books that I would suggest twelve year olds and above get into. It's a thrilling book full of events and I strongly recommend it to any reader. He has a way of making you think you were there with him as he describes how he watched his colleagues being shot down by German Ju88's.

I'd most certainly without a doubt put it in the top five books I have ever read. He has also written another autobiographical book of when he was a child and how his life was growing up which is another excellent book. Going Solo is a very easy read although it leaves you at the end of the book wanting more with an ending that doesn't quite finish it as well as it should although don't let this put you off it. He has a very good memory of the events which occurred. Also every couple of pages he includes a letter that was written back to his mother while he was in the war.

Overall it is a great read - 5 Stars

Boy Review

It starts the tale off, at the family home, before “boy” "s birth.

The start really makes you want to read it, because a gruesome, and in some ways funny tale is told, about a broken arm, being mistaken for a dislocated shoulder, you can almost feel the pain yourself, as the bone is wrenched through the skin. This in my opinion is one of the best ways to start a book, because it really hooks you, you just want to see what other things happened to a great author in his childhood.

The next parts of the story are hilarious; I felt sorrow for Boy in his times of trouble, when he was home sick, when he was canned by his own version of the demon head master.

The boazers sounded horrid, and I"m glad that we do not have them here at St Mary's.

I also felt joy, when Boy had times of great merit, for instance, the goats tobacco, I laughed, almost feeling sorry for the man, who cannot have been that bad.

I think that anyone could enjoy this book, providing they could read, Adult and children alike.

I was definitely hooked onto this book, I never wanted it to end, and you read it I'm sure you will not be able to put it down too.

Boy is an amazing tale, a true tale of a young boy, called Roald Dahl.

It starts the tale off, at the family home, before “boy” "s birth.

Lamb to the Slaughter Essay

The setting of this story is important because they live in a small town and everyone knows everyone else. Because of this the store clerk, Sam, knew Mary and could give a detailed report about what she wanted and how she acted and that would help her get away with murder.

The main characters of this story are Mary and Patrick Maloney. Mary is a housewife that spends the day cooking ,cleaning and doing other jobs around the house. Patrick is a cop that serves his community everyday. We don't know much about him because he was taken out of the story so soon. This story was written in 3rd person. The way I know this is because the author used words such as; he, she, and they.

The major theme of this story is, people aren't always as they seem. This is because she seemed like a nice, little housewife that wouldn't hurt anyone and she went off and killed her husband. The tone of this story was a pretty gloomy tone. This story seems gloomy because it wasn't exciting or scary, it was more of a plain, and disturbed tone.

The things I learned from writing this essay are important in case I have to write reports in my job later in life. One of the things I learned while I was writing this essay is what a synopsis is. A synopsis is a short introduction of what you are doing in your essay. Another thing I learned is how much I hate writing essays.
