New Moon Book Review

First of all, if you're looking to read New Moon, and haven't read the book Twilight, I strongly suggest you read it first. If you're curious about Twilight, then go here. Other than that, if you have read it, then let me be the first to say, the sequel, New Moon was a pretty good book! In my opinion, it was a little less positive, and interesting from a certain perspective. The way you take in this book, is based highly upon your past life-experiences. Also, the book can go a little slow at times, because the plot is a little less "twisty and turny" than Twilight. This can also be a sad, or happy book, depending highly on the reader.

New Moon had trouble keeping my attention, and wasn't as positive as Twilight.

If you had any trouble reading Twilight cover to cover, it will only be worse with New Moon. Mainly, I didn't get through it very quickly, because nothing very interesting happened until it got about halfway through the book, although, on a positive note, it did get very interesting after that. The reading has sent some more sensitive readers into a bit of a depression, until they finished the book.

There are some good characters introduced to New Moon that only appeal to some people.

When the reader gets to a certain point in the book, one of the minor characters from Twilight becomes a major character in New Moon. In my opinion, this character was a good replacement for the other character that's out of the book at the time (I can't say who, or I'd spoil the surprise!), although some people didn't like him. He became one of my favorite characters, because I found it easy to relate to him, because I've been in his place before (being hopelessly in love with someone who only wants to be best friends).

New Moon's plot moves more slowly than Twilight's, but it's still worth reading to the end.

While it did take me awhile to read through this book, I thought it was worth it for the ending. If you're the type of reader who gets a little depressed by the book, it's important to read it to the end.

New Moon can be either happy, or sad.

While some people have fallen into a bit of a depression reading the book, others have thoroughly enjoyed it, and been very hopeful that it would end happily. I still enjoyed it, because although there was a lack of real action, I got to learn about a new "species". There was more drama than the last book, and a little less romance, but I still liked it.

So overall.....

While New Moon was a good deal more dramatic than Twilight, I would still give it a seven on a scale of one to ten. It had an interesting new character, with more and more revealed about him as the book progresses. I still like Stephenie Meyer's writing style, and she continues to use many literary devices, with alot of similes, and metaphors. So overall..... I would reccomend this book to anyone who likes drama, or enjoyed reading Twilight.

Literary Censorship in France

This ceased after the Liberation. However, "obscene" literary material continued to be subject to a level of official repression which remained severe for some thirty years. This abated in and after the 1970s; however, laws allowing the proscription of literary works remained in place and were reinforced by new anti-pornography measures introduced in 1994.

A law which pertained to the control of publications intended for the young, and which extended restrictions placed upon books deemed to contravene morality by the 1939 Family Protection Decree, was passed on 16 July 1949, serving as a pretext for proscription. The 1940s and 1950s witnessed a series of literary prohibitions, the objects of which were works of erotic literature. Texts affected included the French translations of Henry Miller's Tropic of Cancer, Tropic of Capricorn and Sexus; I Spit on Your Grave (J'irai cracker sur vos tombes) by "Vernon Sullivan" (alias Boris Vian); Pauline Réage's Story of O (Histoire d'O); and some of the works by the Marquis de Sade, published by Jean-Jacques Pauvert.

A further landmark in the battle to restrict the publication of erotico-literary material waged by the French legislature was an administrative edict-an ordonnance, which did not require the sanction of the National Assembly-of 21 December 1958. The ambit of this document, which was modified by the law of 4 January 1967 and was intended, ostensibly, to protect French youth, covered books and periodicals destined not only for children and adolescents but also for adults. It made it illegal to make available to minors any publication that was licentious, pornographic or violent in nature. Between 1958 and 1967, a hundred or so books were banned and, in 1966, both Le Figaro and Le Nouvel Observateur ran into legal difficulties after running advertisements for books subject to proscription. The sociosexual upheavals generated by May 1968 did not, at least not initially, militate against the restrictions to which erotico-literary material had become subject.

In the closing years of the 1960s, erotic texts by authors such as Sade, Henry Miller, Guyotat, Réage and Emmanuelle Arsan were banned. In 1973, a publisher of erotica, Régine Deforges, was fined 10,000 francs for bringing out works constituting an "apologia for perversion". Deforges's trial provoked a storm of protest, which may have contributed to the diminution in literary repression that took place in France during and after the mid- 1970s. This period is generally considered to be one in which, as far as matters pertaining to book publishing were concerned, the legislative status quo bowed to the pressure of social evolution, and to changes in popular conceptions of what did and did not constitute "obscenity". This is not to say that the French legal system has become openly tolerant of erotica. In 1994, the new French penal code included a section detailing the sanctions attendant upon the dissemination (to minors) of pornographic material.

Scar Night by Alan Campbell: A Reader's Review

Situated over a unfathomable abyss, the city of Deepgate rests upon a complex arrangement of chains and ropes. According to legend, the god Ulcis forged the first chains himself and helped to raise the city. He also provided the battle-archons, angelic beings possessed of incredible speed and strength and whose eyes change color to indicate their emotional state, to defend the city against the Heshette nomads who dwell in the seemingly endless desert that surrounds Deepgate in all directions.

Three thousand years past saw Deepgate as a beautiful and prosperous city, a center of industry and culture. Now it’s a crumbling, soot blackened, pollution choked slum overseen by the ineffectual Church of Ulcis and its senior official, Presbyter Sypes. The glory of the battle-archons is long gone and nearly forgotten. A reminder of their time can be found in the sad form of Dill, the temple-archon. The last of his kind, Dill is no warrior. He was never taught how to fly or wield weapons. He exists now merely as a figurehead of a waning way of life, only allowed out of his rooms to take part in church ceremonies, purely as a formality.

His lack of any real experience or responsibility doesn’t stop Dill from dreaming of a better time and wanting more out of life. He still sincerely hopes that one day he’ll be given the chance to prove himself and follow in the footsteps of his highly respected and revered father, Gaine. When Presbyter Sypes assigns Rachel Hael, a member of the Spine, an elite corps of assassins that now protects the city in place of the battle-archons, as his new caretaker, Dill sees his opportunity to finally learn how to fight.

But even Rachel, while friendly to Dill, seems too preoccupied to teach him very much. Each month, during the night of the new moon, known as Scar Night, when the city is plunged into total darkness, something comes out to feed, something that has plagued the city as far back as the time of the original archons, and Dill finds out that Rachel is part of the team which is charged with hunting down this creature. Dill soon learns that his quest for respectability and to be taken seriously are the least of his worries as he eventually finds himself thrust into a face-to-face encounter with the creature. But it’s from here that he begins to learn about the true history of Deepgate and of the Church and the faith in which he has so readily wanted to take a more active role.

There are lies within lies going back to the time of Deepgate’s founding. Legend tells that, after Ulcis finished raising the city, he descended into the abyss to his kingdom of Deep, to sit upon his throne and gather the souls of the faithful to him. But Presbyter Sypes has found out what really waits down there in the depths and comes to understand his own complicity in its creation.

Originally a computer programmer, Alan Campbell worked on games for the Nintendo 64 and Playstation game systems. He also had a hand in creating the hugely successful Grand Theft Auto series. Eventually though, a deep and abiding love of literature led him to change jobs and become a full time writer. And this, in turn, has led him to produce a truly unique work of Fantasy. By offering Deepgate as a metaphor for life, Campbell is able to address serious topics such as the damage that can be wrought by unquestioning loyalty and blind faith. Scar Night is the first book in what will become a series known as the Deepgate Codex. Currently, Campbell is working on the second volume of the story. To learn more about his work, visit

Harry Potter 8: Another Delivers?

The 8, after the Deathly Hallows, would propose us Harry's life at time when adult, in family, but especially without the presence of Voldemort! I know, it can seem a little annoying, but, what's the use as you know it, Harry Potter goes out with Ginny in the 6th volume. We suppose a relation more developed in the future (I say it for those who still have no 7th volume).

Relationships?

We also suppose a connection Ron-Hermione. Harry Potter will become auror (he will become the leader of the department), Ron, as for him, will become too an auror (on the other hand, he will not be the leader) whereas Hermione will become the leader of the department of the protection of the magic creatures. (Let us not think of the house elves!!) in an interview, J.K. Rowling explains us that the book will rather be quiet, relaxing …

The next generation?

Maybe we shall see the kids of Harry going to Hogwarts … Maybe it will be their adventure! We hope that we shall learn more other characters, as Luna Lovegood, Neville Longbottom, Dean Thomas, Seamus Finiggan I think that Draco Malfoy will belong to Azkaban, the prison of the magicians

The ancestors!

We see at the end of the 7 that the kids of Harry are Albus, James and Harry. His parents reborn!

With City Of Others #1 (Of 4), Bernie Wrightson is back at the drawing table working in collaboration with writer Steve Niles on the most exciting new horror comic of the yea.
In Blood Nation #1 (Of 4), the world is reeling under vampirism twenty years in the future. Can Terrax assume the role of the Tamer again against an enemy who can absorb his cosmic power? Or, has the experience in the hands of Annihilus shattered famous spirit?

Written by Ed Brubaker and art by John Paul Leon, Daredevil #94 is a special stand-alone issue, and a great jumping-on point for new readers. Milla and Matt have united again, but he is now a changed man after spending time in prison and being on the run. And now, after the Marvel Civil War, being Daredevil is even more dangerous than it was before Matt got taken down. Can the relationship between Milla and Matt survive the new obstacles? Can "Blind Love" overcome all? It has a special cover by Marvel Comics Legend John Romita Sr. In Iron Man #15, it is the first day of Tony Stark taking over as the director of S.H.I.E.L.D after he takes up the mantle of the missing Nick Fury to lead S.H.I.E.L.D. into the 21st Century. But what does this mean for the future of Iron Man?
"Men May Come and Men May Go, But I've Still Got My Little Pink Raincoat"

Anders includes a subtitle on the first page, “Life and Love In and Out of My Wardrobe”, and it fits to a “T”. It could have also been called “Sex in the City in Print” or “Love Affairs with My Closet”

Anders lovingly recounts special items she purchased with this thought in mind. When he sees me wearing this, he will love me and therefore marry me. Each chapter highlights a new item, ie. a Cartier Tank Watch, her Coco perfume, the “Just-perfect Jean Jacket”, etc, by not only telling us how she came to know about the item , but also the lengths she went to obtain it. As a bonus you also get to learn about her other daily acquirements and oh yeah, the men that were in her life at the time and how they didn't work out.

This book is definitely not for men unless you are metrosexual or see no problem with holding funerals for slippers that have worn out. Yes, I did say funerals. However, for the fashion conscious, read obsessed, slightly lost 20-30 year old female, this book was written for you.

I, dear reader, am none of the above. (At least not anymore) I bristled at first, wondering how in the world I was going to finish this book. Something happened after the first chapter though, I found myself transported to the time when I was 20 something and you would find Cosmo and Vogue on nightstand. I could remember thinking that no man could resist me in that little black dress. I started laughing at her juvenile attempts to find just the right shoes or say the right thing to her current boyfriend. And it was laughing with her, not at her.

From that point on, I was hooked. I laughed out loud when she told the story of “Doctor Fruit Cocktail” and his predilection for peach lingerie. I almost cried along with her when one of her precious objects was shattered against the headboard.

All in all, I am pleasantly surprised to admit that I thoroughly enjoyed the book. It was fun, light fare and a great change. The plot was skimpy, but the message was clear, Men May Come and Men May Go but I've Still Got My Little Pink Raincoat.
