Plum Lucky

Plum Lucky by Janet Evanovich puts the author's best love character, Stephanie Plum, into another holiday dilemma. While celebrating St. Patrick's Day, Stephanie's wacky Grandma discovers a duffle bag full of money. While she runs off to have fun in Atlantic City, Stephanie is left to deal with the aftermath of the money-which happens to have been stolen from one the notorious Trenton mobsters. Now, not only does Stephanie have to deal with Grandma, but she has to find Snuggy, a former jockey who stole the money from the mobster. And Stephanie's usual backup of her boyfriend Morelli and mysterious friend Ranger are nowhere in site. This leaves the aid of Diesel, and mysterious guy that tends to pop in and out. Literally.

While this book is part of the Stephanie Plum series, it is an in-between-the-novels book. This means that is a very quick read, and by many standards almost too quick. And Evanovich is careful with these shorter books not to get into major relationship issues or big plotlines, so the mysterious Diesel is brought in to be Stephanie's counterpart. Morelli and Ranger are usually nowhere to be found in these novellas, but Diesel is a character that embodies the best of both men, so Stephanie still feels quite at home flirting and getting into trouble with him.

While the St. Patty's Day and leprechaun jokes get a little corny, there is still a lot of Stephanie Plum fun packed into this little book. It is a perfect summer read for those who love the Stephanie Plum books, and can be a quick introduction to the character for those who are not familiar with Stephanie Plum. Most of the major plotlines from previous books are summed up in a few sentences in the book.

Plum Lovin'

In Janet Evanovich's second in-between novel Plum Lovin', Trenton bounty hunter Stephanie Plum must play matchmaker to collect her bounty. Not only that, she must assist and endure the help of Diesel, the guy who holds more mystery than Morelli and Ranger combined.

Stephanie must take on five cases from Annie Hart, the pushy matchmaker. She will gladly turn herself in if Stephanie can find love for her clients before Valentine's Day. On top of that, she must assist Diesel in finding the guy that's after Annie Hart-and giving her a bad case of hives.

This story leaves a lot open for familiar Stephanie Plum antics as well as a little bit of the supernatural provided by Diesel. The mystery man doesn't appear very often, but when he does, Stephanie has three handsome men in her life to keep in line.

With fewer than two hundred pages to act out all their shenanigans, the book seems to move by quickly. And it seems too convenient for Stephanie to be able to find matches within her troubled cases. Having to take on her sister's boyfriend and try to get him to overcome his fear of weddings was a surprising and entertaining twist.

Overall, the book satisfies Stephanie Plum fans with a break from her bounty hunting duties and a glimpse at how she really spent her Valentine's Day. It only leaves readers wanting one thing: more Diesel.

Back to the Bedroom Summary

Back to the Bedroom is not only romantic in nature but there is mystery and comedy within its pages. Like all of Janet Evanovich's novels, she can convey a simple chuckle to a hardy belly laugh within the story. Her characters are real and down to earth, allowing a reader to get to know them within the all too short book.

Taking place in Washington, DC, the story begins. From the first few pages the reader can find that the man in this novel is more of your average male, not some unbelievable GQ superman. Her characters are real, not all blown up and fluffy to good to be real. They are down to earth, but with twists within themselves making each of them all the more interesting to get to know. The heroine in this book, Kate, a red head like Evanovich.

She has a fiery temper, but in a lot of instances I can compare some of the situations she finds herself in somewhere along the lines of slapstick comedy, like Lucy, in the I Love Lucy shows.

The book has one general plot but subplots in between. Like most romance novels, there is the build up to a love scene. But unlike some other romance novels I have read it is not too graphic and allows the readers imagination to put in the missing scenario that they want to think.I don't want to summarize the book as that would take away from the reader enjoying the story too much.

Personally I recommend her as a writer and look forward to more of her books. They are on a lighter side of reading making them pleasurable for anyone to read. The Plum series has grown to infinite proportions and her fans look forward to each and every one that she writes. It is a shame that she can not write two novels at the same time so that her fans could have more to read.

Loving Books

What is it about a good book that can take us away from all that is on our mind and make everything feel perfect as long as we are buried deep in those crisp clean pages. Personally, there is almost no better smell than that of a new book; it smells of the adventure, romance, comedy, mystery or murder that will be coming by way as soon as I begin turning pages. My favorite authors deliver me from the mundane or even from the chaos that can be my life and let me escape to some one else’s life for just a little while.

The idea of working with a female attorney like Benny Rosato, a main character of Lisa Scotoline, or being a private investigator like Sunny Randall (Robert Parker), Kinsey Millhone (Sue Grafton), or the ever fumbling bounty hunter Stephanie Plum (Janet Evanovich), or work at the 13th Precinct with Kay Scarapetta (Patricia Cornwall), or at the FBI with Alex Cross (James Patterson), I could go on forever with some more of my favorites but you get the idea. I love some mystery and sometimes a murder thrown in for good measure. Most of all though I love strong characters that are true to themselves, and don’t collapse if they make a mistake.

Well, Stephanie Plum collapses almost every book after she gets another car blown up or if the is thwarted by her arch-nemesis in bounty hunting Joyce Barnhart. I love Stephanie Plum and I am not ashamed to admit it. I almost start frothing at the mouth when I know the next installment of Janet Evanovich’s series about this bounty hunter is about to come out. Her books are such an easy read and the characters so vivid. I have imagined myself the casting director of the Stephanie Plum movie so many times in my head that I can see my favorite actors in the rolls and hear them speaking Ms. Evanovich’s quick dialog.

Alex Cross the creation of the brilliant mind of James Patterson has also almost had some collapses along the way, but he always gets things right in the end. There were times that I wondered about him and his kids though and I prayed right along with him when he was trying to win custody of his youngest son, Little Alex.

These author’s, and I am sure many more too, have a gift that I envy. The can deliver us from the ordinary and make us believe what is written on their pages could happen and, at least in my case, that I could be the one doing some of the things. I could see myself being a walking catastrophe like Stephanie Plum. As a matter of fact, I am sure that she is exactly the kind of bounty hunter I would end up being.

Pick up a book and listen to the story these authors have knitted for us to enjoy, or if you have a long commute, try and audio book they are almost as wonderful of an escape as a hard-cover novel.
