From Marian Keyes, author of the bestselling In Her Shoes, comes Anybody Out There?
This 592-page novel follows the story of Anna who fell head-over-heals for Aiden about 2 years ago. Aiden loved Anna's Irish roots and Anna loved Aiden's Boston accent, but Anna was not ready to marry anyone.
Anna's best friend accepted Aiden, despite his "feathery-stroker" symptoms earlier on in the relationship.
Anna's family is dysfunctional, but they love each other dearly. Yet, after an accident which left Anna severely injured, she's anxious to get back to New York to find Aiden.
It took a long time for Anna to realise that Aiden was not coming back. When she realised that he had died, she looks for him all over. She visits psychics and follows any possible advice to find out what Aiden wanted to tell her on the night of the accident.
At the same time, Anna's sister Helen is spying on crime-lords and some lady's dog is doing his business by the gate. Miscommunication, interfering and all the aspects of family life intertwine beautifully to make this book believable.
The answer was completely unexpected and came from a very unlikely source.
How would Anna take it?
Marian Keyes' dry, sarcastic sense of humor suits my own perfectly and therefore I enjoyed the book. Although the topic is slightly morbid, it's written in a light tone and it's very true-to-life. Her characters are very human and her descriptions are very accurate and imaginable.
