A Walk to Remember: A Review

A Walk to Remember by Nicholas Sparks is an interesting read.

The genre of the book is teenage and romance.

The narrative in the story is in the first person. The main character tells the story. It is an effective narrative voice because it seems like he is talking straight to you and it gets you into the story more.

This story is set in 1958, in the town of Beaufort, North Carolina. The setting of the story affects many things. For example, the setting tells how a boy walks a girl home. And when the setting is in the school, it shows how the boy is afraid to be seen talking to a girl like her.

The main characters of this story is Landon Carter, the most popular guy in school. And Jamie Sullivan, the person most people like to avoid.

Out of the two main characters I like Landon Carter the most. Even though he was a bad kid, after he fell in love with Jamie, he changed a lot. HE was really nice and protective to Jamie. And he still loved Jamie years after she had died. He still wore the wedding ring decades later and had no desire to take it off.

I don't dislike any characters but if I really had to pick I would choose the same person, Landon Carter. Because before he met Jamie, he was a really bad kid, always getting in trouble. And when Jamie talked to Landon in school, Landon ignored her and didn't show any respect to her at all. He did that because he thinks she isn't "cool" enough for him at school.

'A Walk To Remember' by Nicholas Sparks is a tale of true love, first love, and everlasting love. It begins with Landon Carter and Jamie Sullivan. They are two whole different people. Landon never thought that he would fall in love with such a quiet, and innocent girl. But then as days past, and having to do a school play together, they spend more time with each other. And their relationship builds. But then Jamie reveals a secret. She has Leukemia, and she doesn't have much time left. At first, Landon doesn't want to accept the truth, but he eventually has to. So they spend the remaining days of Jamie's life together. And Landon grants one of her wishes, which is to be married. And walk down that aisle seeing all her loved ones watching her in her happiest moment. So then Landon and Jamie get married. A few days later Jamie dies. Landon still loves her, he says their love is like the wind, you can't see it, but you can feel it.

The plot of the story is set up to be sad and humorous at times. It is sometimes humorous because Landon is a bad kid and Jamie is a good girl. How they react to things and how they talk to each other is very amusing. It's sad because he finds out she has a sickness and they don't have much time left. And then they try to fit as many memories as possible in the last few days.

When I read the book, I first felt joy, then sadness. In the beginning of the story, they are happy together. But later it is sad because Jamie gets sicker and sicker.

The theme of this book is growing up, and believing in love. I think the writer's message is that you need to spend a lot of time with someone to be able to know them better. And true love never dies.
