She shows this through rhythm in the poem so that it is like the flow of life, the use of imagery in imaginative things such as a Crystal River, and through the old time languages she used. These things tell the reader that to find one's self, it is necessary to realize others feel pain and suffering too.
The rhythm in the poem shows the flow of life. This is important to the poem because to be at peace a person must know that death is inevitable, no matter how hard anyone tries to avoid it. The flow of life is the birth and death process that recycles the nutrients animals must have to make other forms of life. So the poem having rhythm in it may seem like it is just for the poem to flow but it is actually to show how life flows around us never ceasing.
Bradstreet's use of imagery about these sometimes imaginative objects such as “The Streets thereof transparent gold” is very important to the meaning of the poem because they show how close life and death really are and that they are nothing without the other. Even though some are never seen in the real world, they are used to show how life is the most important thing to use, but death is the next phase of life. In the poem it says “Of life, there are the waters sure Which shall remain forever pure.” This line uses water to represent life since organisms need water to live and means that once we die we will fuel other life forms on Earth for eternity with nutrients from our bodies. So the imagery in the poem is important since the objects it portrays show how life and death are nothing without the other.
With the old time language she used it shows that those who died before use are fueling our Earth today and it does help some with rhythm. Bradstreet sues words such as “thou, doth, thine and thy” which were used for many centuries dating from the eighteenth century to time Before Christ. Also they are used to show the likeness between us and past humans and how they are still part of us. So even though they are dead, they are still fueling life.
This poem by Anne Bradstreet shows how to find your inner self. It shows how death is impossible to stop and how life and death are nothing without the other. Even though all organisms die, their death fuels more life on Earth.
