Not long ago, I was an avid reader. In my opinion, these are the best book series I have ever come across. They are all of the Fantasy genre.
Pendragon
By Dj. MacHale
No, he isn't a deejay. Pendragon is a book series about an epic interdimensional war between the Travelers and Saint Dane. This book series takes you on a roller coaster ride, leaving you gripping onto each page with bated breath. Each page is filled with suspense and action. This may not be as popular as Harry Potter but certain critics have mentioned that it is comparable to it! There are always unexpected twists to the story. You will never see them coming.
The context of this story evokes a lot of interest too. Dj MacHale, with his vivid imagination, has created interesting planets. Some are purely on water, some are very futuristic. In one planet, the cats are the rulers and the humans are the slaves! What a role reversal.
Furthermore, in this book series, the good side does not always emerge victory. This is something fresh and novel which you cannot find in most fantasy book series. Each book is about 300 to 400 pages thick.
Books in the series:
- The Merchant of Death
- The Lost City of Faar
- The Never War
- The Reality Bug
- Black Waters
- The Rivers of Zadaa
- The Quillan Games
Artemis Fowl
By: Eoin Colfer
This is another book series that has taken the world by storm. I am sure you have heard of this Irish author and his impressive story-telling skills. I admire the cover art of this book series too. It gives a very unique look. How many times have you hunted your regional library, unable to find books from this series?
This author creates vivid and memorable characters. The main character, Artemis, is a genius with a certified IQ of 200. With the family motto being “Aurum es potestas” (Gold is power), Artemis has hatched several plans to accumulate wealth. Along the way, he meets many other geniuses, including underground ones. This story has a very strong fantasy element by including mystical creatures such as fairies, pixies and goblins in the context.
This plot is packed with suspense as well and loads of action. Like Pendragon, it uncovers a whole new world. A lot of cutting-edge technological gadgets are also used, making this book look like a sneak peek of the future of human civilization.
Also, this book has hints of being anti-human, by hinting about humans polluting the environment. One common quote is, “Humans can't even live peacefully among themselves. How can they live with other species?”
Books in the series
- Artemis Fowl
- The Arctic Incident
- The Eternity Code
- The Opal Deception
- The Lost Colony
Overall, I have enjoyed reading through the intense, action-packed pages of these two books and I strongly recommend them to anybody who loves fantasy.
