The tragedy of Romeo and Juliet is a sad one that will be remembered by people all over the world for ages to come. There were also two movies made to present the sad tragedy of Romeo and Juliet written by William Shakespeare. The two versions were the Zeferelli version and the Luhrmann version. Today I will compare the Zeferelli and the Luhrmann so you can decide which one to watch.
Both the Zeferelli version and the Luhrmann version have Shakespearian language however the Luhrmann version is practically all Shakespearian language so at some parts it is hard to understand them. The Luhrmann version is also made harder to understand with the fact hat they are talking in Shakespearian language but the setting takes place in modern cities and the costume or clothing they are wearing is also very modern. So the movie is half Shakespearian time and half modern time. Another difference is that the Zeferelli version is made in a city but the Luhrmann version is made mostly in some sort of beach. The Zeferelli version also doesn't have cars but the Luhrmann version has cars and most of the other technology of today. The Zeferelli version also had some really young actors like they were supposed to be in the actual Shakespeare play but the Luhrmann version had normal actors.
The two versions were similar because they were both based on Shakespeare's tragedy play: Romeo and Juliet. They both have violence and a bedroom scene which might be inappropriate for small children. Both of them have weapons however in the Luhrmann version they call guns swords which I found a little annoying. And they last thing they have in common is that they all have the same characters (no same actors).
If Shakespeare was to watch these movies he would have definitely preferred the Zeferelli version because the setting, the costumes and the language were just the way he would have wanted them to be. The Zeferelli version is also more genuine but in the Luhrmann version everything is modern except the language. So Shakespeare wouldn't have liked that for sure.
I liked the Zeferelli version better because it was easier to understand because all the settings, costumes, and language were Shakespearian (and it was still pretty hard with the language.) The Luhrmann version would have been better for people who can comprehend movie easily. I also think that most people would have liked Zeferelli version because everyone found it easier to understand than the Luhrmann version.
