The Big Friendly Giant: A Review

The Big Friendly Giant, by Roald Dahl, is a classic that is sure to please.

The Big Friendly Giant by Roald Dahl takes place at the orphanage village in England, the Giant Country where the Big Friendly Giant and the other nine mean giants live, and the Queen of England's palace in London. The story is about an 8 year-old orphan named Sophie who live in an orphanage dormitory. One night, Sophie happens to see the Big Friendly Giant walking along the street blowing something into people's windows. The Big Friendly Giant knows that Sophie saw him, so he takes her back with him to Giant country because he is scared that she might tell other people about him.

Sophie learns that the Big Friendly Giant is a “Big Friendly Giant” who doesn't eat people. Unlike the Big Friendly Giant, the other nine giants who also live in Giant Country like to eat people from all over the world. When the human eating giants plan to get to eat children in England, Sophie and the Big Friendly Giant make a plan to stop those mean giants by making the Queen of England dream about the Giants and make it so at the end of the dream she will see Sophie at the window and when she wakes up she will see Sophie at the window so it would be like a dream come true. The queen helps Sophie and the Big Friendly Giant capture the giants once and for all! Hear hear!

I think the book is fantastic, funny, and creative. It is fantastic because it is easy to understand and very interesting. Its very fun because it's a made up place that nobody knows about or thinks is possible. The words that he made up are also very creative. He makes them up by putting two different words together. It is like an all in one book that creates all the feeling of excitement, happiness, disappointment, and more. In addition, the way the author plays with words is very creative.

My character who is remarkable and admirable is the Big Friendly Giant. Even though he is a giant, he doesn't eat people like the other giants. He has to eat nasty food to survive everyday, but he well never eat a human because its mean. The Big Friendly Giant has such a kind heart that he dedicates his life blowing happy dreams to children to make them happy. With his dedication, he never wants anything in return. Another remarkable quality of the Big Friendly Giant is that he has to live everyday with other nine mean giants who are always bullying him and making fun of him. Still her never complains or gets mad at them, instead he deals with those fearsome giants with confidence and courage. He still lives his life happy and optimistic.

Character traits of the Big Friendly Giant that is most troubling and difficult is that he is nervous. He is afraid that Sophie would tell other people about seeing a giant and that he would be locked up, so he took Sophie back to Giant Country. This is quite opposite to his other good quality trait because his nervousness makes him act inconsiderately to Sophie. Taking Sophie to the Giant Country with no appropriate/food and water, and maker her live there forever is putting Sophie into a dangerous environment. The Big Friendly Giant is an optimistic giant. This is the most beneficial quality of the Big Friendly Giant. No matter what hardships he has to endure, he always looks at things on the bright side.

One of the most important lessons the Big Friendly Giant taught other characters is that you need to know the situation around you in order to survive. For example, when the Big Friendly Giant and Sophie are going out to the Dreamland and confronting the bully giants, he does not run away. He knows that giants will not eat another giant, so he stays calm and polite until they stop and let him go. Other important lessons the Big Friendly Giant taught Sophie is that just because you don't see something, doesn't mean its not real. “Just because use happen not to have actually seen something without our own little winkles, we think it is not existing.” This means you have to be away and prepared for things you do think about.
