Public Enemy #2 Review

Writer Anthony Horowitz wrote a best seller book that was popular with kids and children alike.

Nick Diamond, genius investigator and brother to the worst investigator in the world, is framed for several crimes, including the stealing of a priceless jewel. He is offered a deal by Chief Inspector Snape of Scotland Yard. If Nick finds out the identity of "the fence", a notorious underworld businessman, from one of the inmates, he will be cleared of all charges promptly. The unfortunate thing for Nick is, the inmate happens to be Public Enemy Number One.

Anthony Horowitz is a terrific writer, easily being the best writer in the hearts of many. In his Diamond Brothers series, featuring teen whiz Nick Diamond and "mentally-challenged" Tim Diamond, Anthony Horowitz adopts an interesting way of writing. The entire book is filled with puns and humor. Because of this, it keeps the reading in a light-hearted note.

The reader will also experience inability to put the book down once he starts reading it. There was action all the way through and not a dull moment, gripping the reader as though a steel vice. The non-stop action mystery adds on to that feeling, making it nearly impossible to get your mind off that book.

The design of the characters was great, most notably the stark contrast between Tim and Nick. Tim was capable of making a moronic phase in almost all his sentences, save for some "Ya" and "yes" in the book. Nick is the intellectual one, more deserving of the title detective than Tim. The placement of them together as brothers implies their frequent talks. Due to Tim's poor understanding of everything, Nick has trouble communicating, which is mainly because of Tim irrelevant answers.

We see the story through the eyes of Nick Diamond, which enables us to see a lot of action, since he has a knack to get into trouble. This means that you heart cannot stop beating against your chest, as most of his troubles happen to be thrilling ones. Most humour is found in his thoughts too, making laughs unavoidable.

This book is a good read. It is action-packed yet not forgetting the best medicine: laughter. While following Nick's tense situation, one can still expect the light-heartedness and joy while reading. Readers will be captivated by Anthony's writing and be immersed in the book till it reached it parting end.
