How to Train Your Dragon: A Review

Scientists say winged, fire-breathing dragons didn't exist. But according to Hiccup Horrendous Haddock, when he was a boy, all men needed a dragon to be a member of the Hairy Hooligan tribe. If you don't get a dragon, you face a cold exile.

The two major characters are Hiccup and his not so faithful dragon, Toothless. These two are faced with a big challenge; Hiccup has to train Toothless by Thors'day Thursday in June. But Toothless is really hard to train. If you want to find out, read the book.

Hiccup is the only son of the Viking Chief, Stoick the Vast and is nothing like his father. He has puny muscles and he couldn't open a scallop shell without a lever of some kind. His small size causes him to be beaten up by the older boys such as Snotface Snotlout and Dogsbreath the Duhbrain. I like Hiccup as he is not what he seems to be and surprises everyone at the end but read the book to find out why.

The story is absolutely brilliant and you can really picture the isle of Berk in the first chapter. If she had described it any more, you would be able to feel the cold icy wind of Berk. Another achievement is the use and description of the characters such as on page 22 "For a start, Hiccup didn't look like a hero. Somebody like Snotlout, for instance, was tall, muscley, covered in skeleton tattoos, and already had the beginnings of a small moustache.'

I think the writer is a good writer because she describes things really well and the settings are really good. One thing about is that to some people it might be really obvious so she could have put some mystery into it. But other than that, it is really funny. I give it 10 dragon eggs out of 10.
