Hamish X and the Cheese Pirates takes place in Wind city were the wind is blowing one way for 182.5 days and in the opposite direction for the other 182.5 days.
Hamish X is a boy around 12 who is famous for escaping every orphan-workhouse in the world. He is brought to a cheese factory in which all the orphans are working to make the famous Caribou Blue cheese, invented by Viggo Schmatz. Hamish X is in a fight almost as soon as he gets there. He is caught fighting a girl named Mimi, and they are punished by getting put on long ropes by harnesses and being left to hang in the air. While hanging they meet a boy named Parveen, who was extremely good at making things. Hamish X, Mimi and Parveen soon become friends and hatch a plan to escape. Parveen would make a large flying hang glider thing for each of them. Then Viggo and his guards would see it and think they were escaping and go after then on snowmobiles. Then the children could go to the docks on foot and sail away. Unfortunately the Cheese Pirates arrive right as they were about to leave and they capture the orphans and Viggo. They also capture the cook Ms. Francis but they could not find Hamish X, Mimi and Parveen. While on the air ship, which is called the Vulture, Ms. Francis meets a pirate named Mr. Kipling who is not as enthusiastic as the other pirates. He secretly takes Ms. Francis and the orphans food.
Hamish X and his friends decide to follow the pirates in order to save the orphans and Ms. Francis. Parveen uses his creative skills to build a makeshift aircraft and they set out to find the pirates. When they catch up with the pirates they try to get an anchor in the propeller of the air ship but get shot down. Fortunately they do manage to screw up the air ship and delay the pirates. When they crash they are captured by poachers who think they are government Agents that have come to arrest them so they hang them on ropes around their waists and drop them through a hole in the ice. Luckily Hamish X gets out of the ice cold water and rescues Mimi and Parveen. When they leave the poachers they meet some Inuit who have found a woolly mammoth and ask for some help. They ask the Inuit if they know about Snow Monkey Island and if they can take them there. It turns out that the Inuit do know about it and they agree to take them there but only to the base of the island. After a couple days of riding they finally get there and see that Snow Monkey Island is a huge volcano in the middle of the arctic ice. The Inuit leave them and they start the long journey up the side of the volcano. At about seven tenths of the way up they find some strange caves that are the obvious home of the dreaded Snow Monkeys. Suddenly they are attacked by Snow Monkeys that are throwing frozen poo at them. Hamish X and the Snow Monkey leader get in a fight and fall off the cliffs!
