Why Read Beowulf?

A response to an essay that told reasons why to read the popular Anglo-Saxon book: "Beowulf." It describes some of the things that the essay says, and supports them.

What this essay is saying truly will make anyone believe that “Beowulf” will be a great read. Just by its descriptions, it will get anyone excited to take on the Anglo-Saxon poem. The way the poem is described makes all doubts about the literature being very old, and probably difficult, put off to the side, because it sounds like an excellent, action-packed book. My personal expectations of this classic piece of literature are not going to be let down. The “Why Read Beowulf” essay gave me some high hopes about “Beowulf.”

“Beowulf” not only has a great story line, but there are other important aspects thrown into it as well. First off, it is a cult classic. It can teach us about humans' past and how they portrayed stories and even life itself. “Beowulf” is part of our heritage, which makes it important, and a part of us as humans. “Beowulf” shows a lot about who we were and who we are in the way it tells the story, and the storyline itself.

The last great reason that there is to read “Beowulf” is the fact that it was worked on by so many people for so many years. If as many people worked tirelessly on a book as they did with “Beowulf,” certainly it is a must-read. The fact that this literature was passed through a chain of so many people shows that the book is a necessity for people to read, and it makes reading it one-hundred-percent worth it. Anything that's well worked on for a long time, and by numerous people, is well worth taking the time to read.
