In the Future, Some Books Will be Read, Watched, and Experienced

This is about something I call a multi-book which will have a screen and an Experienceable Program Unit System.

A multi-book will be one that people can read like a regular book on a screen, view like a video on that same screen, and experienced when a person plugs in an Experienceable Program Unit link.  With a freestyle interface system, some people will even be able to participate in the book and change it, if they want.

A multi-book system will consist of the viewer, a headphones and EPU jack, headphones, and an EPU link that will either be a helmet or cap that will link the brain to the book program you want to experience.  Many books will be no larger than a DVD, if that large, and will be inserted into the viewer when the book recording is placed in the top of the viewer.  The title of the book will be seen on the cover that will be sticking out.

Some longer books will require more recording cartridges that will be inserted into the top of the viewer. Some viewers may even have multiple cartridge holders that will automatically load the viewer when one cartridge is completed .

As a regular book, the size of the printing being viewed will be adjustable.  Also, with multiple language capability, a book written in one language could be read in another.  If a person wants to listen to a book, voice sampling and synthesizing could make it an audio book.

The book will also be a video program that either the author or a video book production company will produce using video manipulation or conventional movie making equipment.  Since some books will be over 1000 pages long, shooting them like a movie may be expensive and time consuming.  Video manipulation using a computer and video memory banks will make the production process faster and less expensive since most of the work will be done in a production room.  There could even be a sound track like what regular videos have.

As an EPU program, people will be able to experience books.  They can be passive onlookers or participants.  As participants, they could interact with the program and with freestyle capability change the book.  If all the action takes place in Europe, no one will be able to electronically travel to America.  That won't be allowed since America wouldn't have been programmed into the EPU program.

A multi-book will display an entire page on the screen that will be advanced with the push of a button.  When the book is turned off, it will display the last page that was being viewed.  The same will go for watching the video version or listening to the audio book version of the book when the device is turned off.

Since the brain can experience things in dreams faster than real time, the EPU control will allow people to experience the book in real time or at an accelerated rate.  In the program he is experiencing, he may have mind-link override which will allow him to freeze the action and escape the program.  With freestyle capability, a person could be a part of the book and shape its outcome, to some extent.  He may even take over a book and make it his own.

A typical multi-book program may cost about two or three times the cost of a regular book.  But it will offer much more than what a conventional book can present.  If an author of a multi-book produces the book entirely, he will keep more of the profits.  After production costs, reproduction costs, and distribution costs are taken care of, a $60 multi-book might make a profit of $20 after the first 1000 are sold and maybe $40 after the first 100,000 are sold.  The more popular a book is, the lower the reproduction costs.  Distribution costs may go down too since buying ten cases of a book is overall less expensive than buying just one case.

Just like e-books were the logical progression in book publishing, multi-books may be the next progression in book production.  They'll be time consuming to produce.  But if a writer only writes a page a day on a novel, he'll spend more tme writing a book than if he were creating a multi-book, very likely.  Once you're into the action presented, it might be difficult to stop it.
