By the time this is out, millions of copies of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows will be officially released. Many will know the plot of the long awaited book 7. But now a day before release it's a different story. Multitudes of conflicting “photocopies” of Deathly Hallows and people that claimed to show copies on YouTube. Many of these conflict, though it is likely that at least one is real.
The Dishonest and the Bad
Of all the attempts I detest the attempt to stunt book sales by the “hacker” Gabriel who did it to hurt sales. Many times the first things on a spoiler website is a spoiler. This means that people do not have a chance to avert their eyes or go back.
Protect Fans or Up Sales?
Scholastic, the US and International publisher and Bloomsbury, the British one may cash in on all this news. Appearances on ABC, NBC, CBS, and BBC put Harry Potter into lives of those people who had not heard of it before possibly boosting sales. The hesitance by Scholastic, Bloomsbury, and Rowling to deny any of the reported early release books. While some critics have fired that they must have not confirmed or denied it to up sales I think it is simply to not spoil the book for fans. This did keep it shrouded in secrecy only to be possibly busted by some dishonest people.
Insignificance
It is my hope that those who actually stole the book are fired and prosecuted to send a message to other dishonest people. But all that really matters is the book itself.
