Never Give Up With Bud
The story Bud Not Buddy by Christopher Paul Curtis has many messages. The one that stuck out was, never give up. Throughout the story Bud never gives up and that helps him on his travels. If you never give up it shows you that anything can happen when you try. Something special happened to Bud when he never gave up. He was locked in a shed at the Amose’s where it was lightless, freezing, and scary.
He didn’t just sit down and fall asleep and get punished by the Amose’s when he woke up. He found a way out by breaking a window after being stung by hornets and bit by a fish head guard. The courage that Bud showed when he was locked in a shed pushed him into an adventure that he will never forget. When Bud was on his adventure he failed to get on a train. He didn’t sit down and whine about missing the train. He got up and said, “Oh well” and started off on foot towards Grand Rapids. Even though his “brother” got on the train that he missed. He didn’t stay in Flint but kept going and didn’t give up. Bud wanted to finish what he started. Bud had trouble getting to his “father”. He kept going and didn’t care that he was having a hard time.
Since he kept going and walking, a man in a truck named Lefty Lewis gave him a ride. He fed him and took care of him like he was in his family. The courage to keep going helped Bud find a quicker way to get to his “father”. He got what he wanted for never giving up. No one would be as brave as Bud. No one would go all the way like Bud did. Bud got through this by never giving up. He went through terrible experiences but got through them. You must always be brave in life, if you don’t you might have an awful life. Bud never gave up for what he believed in, a loving family and the truth. Bud showed everyone that if you believe it, you could get what ever you want.
