In the book (alternative ending) Brian’s Winter by Gary Paulsen is about a boy named Brian Robeson who originallyfound a transmitter and called for a plane to rescue him. He later becomes famous for surviving in the Canadian forest by himself. BUT, in this book, Brian doesn’t get saved for he will have to survive the winter coming up. Brian’s adventure continues by him making a shelter for the winter, making weapons and thrives to survive. He later finds himself being attacked by a bear and barely survives not only to be saved by a skunk that sprays smelly odor at the bear’s face. As Brian slowly learns to understand nature and its surroundings, it has given him a better chance of survival. He finally gets saved by a family called the Cree who ends up helping him return to his own home.
In my opinion, I somehow thought this book was boring already. It was like Hatchet but less detailed. I liked the part where he got attacked by the bear because that was like the only action scene in the book.
The book has no funny gestures or any exciting parts. It only talks about how he wants food so he goes out and hunts rabbits, comes back with food, eats it and done.
I suggest reading “My Side of the Mountain” since it talk about how he connects with nature after running away from his home.
