After spending a few years working for a publishing company, it's been eye opening to learn from former customers that many people suffer from eye problems. From eye strain to glaucoma or blindness, people all over who formerly loved to read now avoid it due to eye trouble. If your eyes aren't quite what they used to be, then don't despair. Books recorded onto CDs are becoming very popular for everyone, for a variety of reasons.
When working on my computer, my time is limited so reading books isn't something I normally can take the time to do. After staring at a computer monitor all day long, my eyes are tired and the last thing they need is to focus on something else. So, when the last Harry Potter book came out, this time around I chose to buy the Deathly Hallows book on CD, instead of buying the traditional book. It was an impulse thought, but what a good choice that turned out to be. It has made book reading possible again, also giving me the added bonus of reading me to sleep and relaxing my mind. It's a good way to end the day.
The CD set for my book came in the mail, and had CDs for each section of the book. It was so simple to use and the voice of the narrator added to the interest of it all. It sure helps when narration is done with expression, like this one was. And, if I missed a point or fell asleep, it was easy to go back and listen to again. It's not quite the same as book reading but the illustrations that were for the book were in the jacket of the CD set, so the only thing I missed out on was hours of eye strain.
If you've never tried book on CD, give it a try and be pleasantly surprised on its ease of use. A friend of mine who runs his own company swears by them, because he has no down time and works constantly. Putting it on the stereo or iPod as you work is a nice, mellow way to listen to something interesting and make work time fly by even faster.
With everyone working hard, being stressed and just not having much energy, any aids to make our lives a little better or easier are welcomed. If your passion is reading, but for whatever reason haven't been able to read as much as you'd like to; check out the section of books on CD at your local bookstore or online. It will open your world to a wide variety of great titles and give your eyes a well-needed break, too.
