I read the book The Falcon's Maltesers by Anthony Horowitz. It is a mystery book, which takes place in Fulham, England, in areas around London. In the book, Tim Diamond and his younger brother Nick, live in a run down apartment in Fulham. They are not very rich, and Tim, who is twenty-three years old, is a private detective.
One day, while they are hanging around in their apartment, a dwarf named Johnny Naples cautiously enters in and entrusts them with a package, saying that if they look after it, for a week, he will give pay them one thousand dollars. Unexpectedly outside, a car backfires, and the dwarf suddenly hides under the desk and pulls out a gun. So Tim agrees to look after the package for a week, not knowing what was in store for him in the next couple of weeks. After Johnny leaves, Tim and Nick go out and spend the one thousand dollars that they had received in advance. To their surprise, when they return they find their whole house in a mess searched while they were gone. Tim, at once looks in the drawer in which in which he had stored the package and finds it missing. Luckily when he points this out to Nick he is relieved and surprised when Nick pulls it out of his pocket, and says that he took it because he thought that something like this might happen.
The next day, the two brothers receive a letter in the mail saying to go to Trafalgar Square that day. It is from The Fat Man, who is the biggest criminal in London. Tim and Nick go, to meet him and when they get there The Fat Man demands the package, which he calls a key. Tim and Nick lie to him and say that it was stolen from them a few days ago. The Fat Man, who doesn't believe them, but can't do anything in return, threatens to kill them if they don't find the key in two days. He lets them go, and when they return home, they decide to open the package to see what was inside.
When they do, to their surprise, it's a box of maltesers, which is a type of chocolate candies. Also, they observe the envelope that the maltesers were in and they see that it says "Hotel Splendide." Now, knowing where the dwarf lives, they go to the Hotel to tell Johnny all the troubles that they had gone through. When they get there, they find Johnny dead, on his bed, and in no time, they are arrested, for something that they did not do. After a lot of arguing with the police, they finally convince them that they did not kill Johnny Naples. The police let them go, and they go to the Casablanca Club, because when they were in Johnny's room, they saw a box of matches, which said that it was from the Casablanca Club.
At the club, they are looking around, when they meet a woman named Lauren Bacardi. She tells them that she knew Johnny, and then goes on, and tells them about the maltesers. They learn that the maltesers were a type of key, which opens the safe to a dead criminal- called the Falcons', fortune. When they get home, they find the Fat Man's driver dead in their house, and at that moment, the police come in and arrest them again. This time, Nick gets out of it, but Tim has to stay in jail, until his hearing. Nick, goes with Lauren to the mall, where she shows him how the maltesers, work. The barcode on them, open a safe. Now all Nick had to do was find the safe. A few days later, when Tim gets released, he finally understands where the safe is. It is in the graveyard where the Falcon is buried. Tim and Nick, rush to the graveyard, but find out that they are too late. They meet the Fat Man, and the Falcons wife, who both fight him. Read the book, to discover whether he gets the fortune, or dies.
