Chances are, you've heard of all three series', yet there's just so much more out there. Have you ever read an amazing vampire book and thought, Well, this is better than Twilight! Why aren't people talking about it? Or how about some form of magical book that deserves recognition? The truth is, there are just too many people who only want to read these "big" series' and never go on to better and possibly bigger things.
Of course if I hear from enough people that a book is amazing, then I'm going to want to read it myself to see what all the hullabaloo is about. Usually, by the end of the book I know that it's highly deserved hullabaloo, but sometimes readers simply take it too far. For example, the Twilight series. Reader response to the amazing four-book series was unrealistic, though amazing the books were.
The point is, a book doesn't have to be the 'next big thing' for someone to read it and find it amazing. I'm sure all you parents want your kids reading no matter what it is, but they'll be so much more enriched in so many more aspects if we start making a bigger deal out of these lesser known books. Maybe then we can get our people, young and old, foreign and someone relatively close, reading again.
