Chinese Cinderella

Book review based on the childhood of Adeline Yen Mah.

  • Title: Chinese Cinderella
  • Author: Adeline Yen Mah
  • Publisher: Puffin Books
  • Published: 1999

Based in China between 1941 and 1952 Chinese Cinderella is a true account of Adeline's childhood. Raised by her father and stepmother Niang, she is the 5th of seven children and was loved by, her paternal Grandmother Nai Nai, Paternal Grandfather Ye Ye and her paternal Aunt Baba with whom she shared a room. Adeline, also know as Yen Jun-Ling was considered bad luck by her family as her mother died after giving birth to her.

This book was dedicated to all unwanted children. The book contains photos of Adeline and her family and I would recommend this to readers who like a good cry.

Other books by this author: Falling Leaves, Chinese Cinderella and The Secret Dragon Society (Fiction).
